How we test

How we test golf gear

Every driver, ball and club we cover is judged on the same fixed standard, so a score means the same thing from one review to the next. Here is exactly how we get there, what we look for in each category, and how we stay independent.

Our method, in three steps

Research-synthesis, not guesswork

1

Gather the evidence

We pull the manufacturer specifications, then cross-check them against independent launch-monitor and robot testing from trusted outlets and the consensus of hands-on reviews and long-term owner feedback.

2

Score on a fixed standard

Each product is marked on weighted criteria that suit its category, then expressed as a single number out of ten. The weights never change, so an 8.6 on one driver means the same as an 8.6 on another.

3

Write the verdict

We say plainly who a product is for and who should skip it, where the sources disagree, and when a cheaper or older model is the smarter buy. Every review shows the date it was last updated.

How we stay independent

The line we never cross

Reader-supported, never pay-to-place

When you buy through links on our site we may earn an affiliate commission, at no extra cost to you. That commission never changes a score, a ranking, or which gear we recommend. We rate the gear first and add the buying links afterwards, and we will happily tell you when the cheaper option is the better buy.

No paid placementsNo brand can buy a place, a higher mark, or a kinder verdict.
Traceable figuresEvery number can be traced back to a manufacturer spec or an independent test.
Honest verdictsIf an older or cheaper product is the smarter buy, we say so.

Who writes our reviews

Accountable, not anonymous hype

Our reviews are produced by the golfingpicks Research Team and published under one editorial standard. We do not claim to personally hit every club in every loft; we are clear that our verdicts are built from verified specs and independent testing. Every review carries the date it was last updated, and we revise scores when new testing data or a newer model changes the picture.

FAQ

Do you accept payment for reviews or rankings?

No. No brand can pay for a place, a higher mark, or a kinder verdict. Affiliate links fund the work and are disclosed, but they never move a score.

How is the score calculated?

Each product is marked on weighted criteria that suit its category, then expressed as a single mark out of ten. Because the weights are fixed, scores are directly comparable across reviews.

How do you test the gear?

We combine manufacturer specifications, independent launch-monitor and robot testing from trusted outlets, and the consensus of hands-on reviews and long-term owner feedback. Where sources disagree, we say so.

Do you fabricate first-hand testing?

Never. We do not claim to personally hit every club. Our verdicts are built from verified specs and independent testing, with every figure traceable to a source.

How often are reviews updated?

Reviews are re-checked and re-scored when a newer model arrives, the price changes, or new testing data changes the picture. Every review shows the date it was last updated.
