How we score gear

Why these marks mean something

One fixed standard, no paid placements

Every product is judged the same way: manufacturer specs, independent launch-monitor testing and hands-on consensus, combined into one comparable verdict. We rate the gear first and add buying links afterwards.

Research-synthesisVerified data, not marketing claims, with every figure traceable to a source.
Comparable scoresA fixed weighting per category means an 8.6 always means the same thing.
IndependentNo brand can pay for a place, a higher mark, or a kinder verdict.

FAQ

Are these gear rankings paid for?

No. No brand can pay for a place, a higher mark, or a kinder verdict; position is set by score alone. Affiliate links fund the work and are disclosed, but they never move a score.

How do you score each product?

Each product is scored out of ten across weighted criteria that suit its category, for example distance, forgiveness, feel, looks and value for a driver. Because the weights are fixed, scores are directly comparable across reviews.

How do you test the gear?

We use a research-synthesis method: manufacturer specifications, independent launch-monitor and robot testing from trusted outlets, and the consensus of hands-on reviews and long-term owner feedback, combined into one verdict. Where sources disagree, we say so.

Which product is ranked number one?

The product at the top is simply the one with the highest mark under our standard right now. Sort by score to see the current leader, or browse by category for the best in each type.

How often are reviews updated?

Reviews are revisited when a newer model arrives, the price changes, or new testing data changes the picture. Every review shows the date it was last updated.

How do I know these reviews are independent?

We rate the gear first and add buying links afterwards, take no payment for placement, and disclose affiliate links plainly. If the cheaper option is the better buy, we say so.
